I take 5, extra seconds, after every shot to clean mine. Your buddies haven't walked 10yds. They do perform better clean.

I have heard that some use window cleaner to clean the grips. Is it something that is recommended?

I utilize the half wet half dry towel option as well after every shot. Since I am out here in Portland Oregon one has to get used to playing in very damp conditions during the fall and winter seasons. When things are real bad I have a battery operated vinyl grout brush that has a small round head on it. It rotates rapidly and works well cleaning my irons and scrubbing my grips.

I learned a valuable lesson this "off season" DO NOT leave your clubs in the trunk of your car. Dumb move on my part. My shafts and grips were covered in a light dirty dust. Needless to say, grips now need replaced before I can do anything to prep for this season. Clubs will come in the garage or stay in the locker from now on.

Lucky me! I conducted a blind experiment of 5 solutions , that cater to rust and club shine for my titleist AP2 irons from Scotland. The best, by far was " Liquid Performance - Premium Marine Metal Polish 8 oz." Around that price you wont find anything cheaper, you will notice a mirror like finish that is strong.

For my own irons, I keep a damp cloth to clean the face during a round I may add a drop of dishwasher detergent to a bucket if I have clubs and balls with dirt or grass stains.

But the reason for my response is I played with a group last Saturday and one had an iron head fly off. He mentioned it was the second iron this summer. Anticipating the answer, I asked him where he stored his clubs. Yup, in the trunk of his car….

My wife would have something to say if I took my clubs to bed with me, but that is a much better storage location than a car trunk and even a garage. I learned in 2012 during the USGA Women’s Open (daily temp 100F) that leaving clubs in the trunk is not just a theft issue. An 8 iron head went further than the ball with the epoxy broken down by the heat. I will take my bag to a hotel room if not taking them out during the day.
