Was at a local golf shop getting new grips on my Irons and got told something that stuck with me…

You don’t really look like a Titleist guy

Not gonna lie—I didn’t even know how to take that.

What does a “Titleist guy” even look like?

I’ve always gravitated toward Titleist because of the performance, the consistency, and honestly just how clean everything looks in the bag. From the irons to the wedges to the ball—it just works for me. No gimmicks, just solid gear that lets you focus on your game.

I’m not a scratch golfer. I don’t play 5 times a week. I’m just a guy who loves the game, works hard, and enjoys getting out when I can. And when I do, I want equipment I can trust.

If anything, I thought that’s exactly what being a “Titleist guy” was about.

Curious if anyone else has ever been told something like this—or what you think it even means.

I think that comment says more about the person making the remark. Titleist has a wide breath of equipment and golf balls to suit players of all abilities and interest. He clearly has a specific expectation of what a Titleist customer should be.
  3. I have never been told this, but anyone who plays with me will see I am a Titleist guy by my bag, TT tag, clubs and balls and Aussie hat. Guess that goes for our fellow TT members.

Sounds like a typical salesman judging a book by it's cover no matter what the cover looks like. I've seen it done to my uncle who walked into a dealership with a cashiers check for $65,000 to by a BMW for his wife (he is more of a truck guy) and nobody would get up to help him.

I'm sure I don't look like a "Titleist Guy either" 66 years old, funky short swing that only gets it out there about 215 yards and am happy breaking 90. But I proudly have nearly a full bag of Titleist clubs and play the ProV 1 and get it to perform just fine for me..

You and I are what the people at Titleist refer to as the Dedicated Golfer, and those come in all abilities and ages.

You just met someone that is called a "Hater". Titleist is just a better product than the other companies. "I've tried PXG, TM, srxn, and png, and none of them come close, well maybe the TM Spider TourX putter, (Scotty got some work to do LoL). And then there's always Brand Loyalty, he probably plays another brand, and would find any reason to take a jab at another company. Don't let it bother you.
