Mixed Woods set up

  1. Played a local course last week and was paired with an out-of-tower we’ll call Rick.

We’re on the third hole and I see the guy looking at my clubs, which is no biggie. We all like to see other people’s setups. Then he kinda wrinkles his face and says “why aren’t your woods matched up”? I replied “matched up? They’re all Titleist”. He comes back with “yeah but you’ve got TSR2 driver, TSI2 3-wood, and a GT2 7-wood.” I replied that I’ve rarely updated all of my woods at the same time, plus I would marry my TSI2 3-wood if I could, so I’ve always had that type of setup.

So here’s my 2-part question. -Am I in the minority with a mis-matched setup? (I know people always say play what you play well with, that’s not my question). I’m curious if the majority of responders have matched or mismatched set ups and a little detail on why. -when you upgrade your wood setup, is it normally all or nothing?

    Nope.

    I have a TSR-1 and a GT-1 hybrid,, 2 TSR-1 fairways, and a GT-1 driver.

Beau Hostler has a T100 5 iron and a T250 5 iron. The T250 is bent a degree or so strong and is his “4 iron”.

I think it is JT that still uses a 915 fairway.

I can’t think of a reason why the clubs have to match besides for a WITB picture. Even then, the pros often just use matching head covers, belying what is inside. Other than wedge groves wearing, if the club hits the window and distance you need, don’t change a thing.

  3. Yeah, they don’t need to be matched.
I play a cobra darkspeed driver, r7 quad mini and a gt2 7 wood. Also a 2 iron. It’s just works best for you.
  4. Over the past 14 months, I've revamped the top end of my bag. At any time, I'll have a combination of GT2 (16.5*) and GT3 3W (15*), GT2 5W (18*),
and my old TM stealth 2+, and cally 7W, depending on the course / conditions.

Couldn't care less about what the head cover says, so long as they work when called upon!

And don't get me started on mini drivers haha
