Fitting not only will give you the length, lie, and flex you need, it will allow you to compare heads to get what you want/what works best for your game. Titleist Thursday's are free of charge if you can find one in your area. Grabbing stock AP1's might work but why take the chance when you can do a fitting. If you don't get special shafts with an up-charge, the cost for a set is the same whether stock or fitted.

As most will say, get fit. I thought "stock" was good for me, but lost yards and inconsistency are no good in the game of golf. Correct shaft, lie angle & club head make a world of difference. Get Fit!

I have to say get fit. With all the no upcharge shaft options, why settle when you could be leaving 5-10 yards on the table or less dispersion for the same price?

Be careful here. If your flight is already high, the AP1 could cause even higher flight.
Shaft selection is critical.

Get a fitting with a Titleist fitter. You and your game deserve it!

Hi Dale, I have been told by a few fitters that I’m about as “stock” as they come. No lie, or length changes. But, the shaft really makes a difference. Local fitters waive the fee if you order the clubs from them.

At the risk of sounding like an echo, a fitting is ALWAYS a good idea. Fitting is like that Army catch phrase... "Be all you can be"... but on the golf course...

100% get fit Give your self a chance to play good golf ,it’s crazy how much of a difference having the correct shaft can make .

As previous replies go and get fitted , makes all the difference , I’ve changed from AP2 to AP1 and now more consistent and the miss hits are still there but due to better forgiveness on the AP1 they don’t seem to be as bad.

I play 716AP1 irons and am considering going to AP3s when they come out this year. According to my fitter who has been with Titleist for over twenty years, it is the shafts that determine the height of the flight. I went from 716AP2s to which I was hitting real high with XP95 shafts to XP105 shaft in my new clubs to lower the height. After working with an instructor for the past two years I am going back to a lighter shaft to regain height with my irons, after talking with my Titleist product specialist/fitter. I have hit the 718AP3 and I like the feel and flight of the club. Want to see the new technology of the 720. Agree with everyone, the fitting is your answer. ALWAYS!!!!

Think you should open your mind to the full AP range - the prices are almost the same - but try them all and get fitted so that you know you are getting what suits your game... And while I'm on my pet subject, don't be afraid to consider combination sets mixing AP's to optimise the benefits across the piece.
Just to underline the last point, I've mixed got AP2 8 to PW and AP3 7 to 5
