I think quite a few people will feel that way. It will always come down to personal preferences. What means more to you? Do you like the feel or spin? Updating equipment will get a little more spin so that might kick you into ProV1. Are you typically a high ball hitter? If not the X will help that.

I’ve tried every version of the ProV1 as I like a softer ball but I can’t stick with it as the window it comes out of doesn’t fit my eye. I’ll give up that “feel” around the green for a higher launching ball. I figure if I can hit the X higher I can get it to stop just as fast given the decent angle is steeper.

It’s personal choice. I would try to stick with one ball exclusively if you can. It will help your game not having to adjust to the ball so much by switching back and forth.

I agree with TSmith. The current generations of both balls feel softer to me than previous generations, but the "X" launches higher than the ProV1. I like both, but have committed to the AVX and will stick with it through this golf season.

I can't imagine switching back and forth between the two.... they are two COMPLETELY different golf balls, in literally every way.

I like the ball flight of the V1 especially in the Kansas wind, as for feel & spin I think they both are great but once again I like the feel of the V1. It really comes down to that with most people. Feel & ball flight. I can't get the same ball flight with an 1X as I do with a V1, my game needs more piercing ball flight as I don't hit bomb drives, and I'm average distance on my irons so anything up in the wind I'll lose distance quicker. So once again the V1 ball flight works well for my area of the golf world. Usually 10-15MPH winds daily in the morning. After 10am 15-20MPH with gusts up to 25mph. that's Kansas golf. Lol

I usually play the ProV or the Left Dash. Today I played the Pro V1x and loved the driver distance, the feel, and the height of my iron shots. However, I did notice that when I clipped a wedge cleanly, the spin was much greater than the other 2 makes and I came up shorter than I expected. I’m sure that I can overcome that with time. All 3 are great balls!

Your point about spin has me wondering. I’ve felt like my iron shots have been shorter than expected, but I attributed that to age, rust and need for an updated iron fitting. Last weekend, I had one of my better rounds in a year and playing the ProV, my yardages were what I was accustomed to. While I’ve definitely knocked some of the rust off, you have me thinking that the ball may have had some influence.

Historically I have played predominately with either the Tour Soft and the AVX but in the last year started moving more towards the ProV’s. Between the two the feeling off the club face seems to be the most noticeable between the two, spin being second to that. I typically have a low ball flight so the X seems to favor my swing but like I said, the V1 softer feel just feels better off the club face throughout the bag. I think I should just commit to one ball and play for a longer period of time to get a better baseline.

Totally agree. Whichever ball you select, the longer you can stay with it, the more consistent you will play, especially the better you get. In my early years when I could not break 90 to save my life, I played all kinds of different balls, even during a round and could not tell the difference. When my game got better and my handicap between 9 to 12, I really began to notice and feel the difference, especially on and around the greens. For me, sticking with the same ball is very important.

I like the way the 1x drives- especially into the wind. They seem to pierce it better than any other ball I’ve tried. I play in wind pretty often.

But I like the feel of the Prov1 around the greens.

They both seem to stick greens and putt exceptionally well for me.

I had the same conclusions as I tested the ProV1 and -ProV1X side by side. I ended up with the AVX, which seems to me to encompass the low-spin, low-trajectory wind performance of the left-dash with the greenside spin and soft feel of the ProV1.

I found an AVX while looking for my errant v1x. After hitting for a few holes I really like the feel of the ball and see no appreciable difference from my normal v1x. After I use up my 6 boxes of my #33 v1x balls may try a box of AVX

I like the feel of the v1x but since they made it the higher spinning ball a few years back it doesn’t suit my game. So I stick with the pro v1.

To add some more confusion, My Spy Golf just released “the longest ball” at 3 speed ranges. 105-120 was Tour Speed was #4 and Pro-V1x left dash was #1. For swing speeds under 90, #5 was Tour Speed, #3 was AVX, and Pro-V1x left dash was #1. This was all robotic testing. Sorry, didn’t pay attention to 90-105 as #1 was a BS or Vice.

Tour Speed was the surprise in the fastest swing speed. The left dash was expected. In the slower swing speed, the surprise was the left dash. As well as for me. I expected the standard to help with the higher spin. Now, how many sleeves of trial balls do I need to try against my standard X? Left dot V was not included - how will that work? My only path to sanity will be if I limit testing to yellow/optic balls.

Glad Titleist offers more than 1 ball, even more than 3, as we are all so different in our preferences.

And again, longest as in off the tee with a driver? Difference of 2 yards or 20 yards? I will give up 2 yards on the driver to get better trajectory and holding on the greens. I bet I loose more yardage from poor swing mechanics than the difference in distance on all these balls. Trying not to think so much. See the ball, hit the ball, find the ball, hit it again. :)

Every Titleist live ball fitting I have done has said I'm a V1X player... need more height, more spin to keep my drives in the air longer and more spin to hold the greens so it is my every day ball. But when I do the online fitting it always comes out that I'm a V1 guy and like the poster, I like the V1 feel so much better than the V1x.

I also play both but ‘slightly’ prefer the V1x for spin and higher flight but V1 for feel. Really cannot detect a distance difference. Bottom line is you can’t go wrong with either.

In the feel/spin discussion I have to go with spin. I have hands of stone and cannot honestly tell the “feel” difference between a ProV1, ProV1x or the Tour Speed I currently play. While I am sure I would get more spin from either ProV (I probably back-up a ball accidentally about twice a year) I have been very pleased with the new Tour Speed. For me it has less roll-out than last year’s version which has kept it on the green better. Cost is an issue for me so when I weigh that against the extra spin I may get with a ProV I will stick with the Tour Speed and what seems to me to be improved spin.

I notice that I get more height with a ProV1X than the ProV1. That said, I use the V1X because I feel it holds a green better for me.

My ball flight is quite low, so I prefer the V1x.

Sure! However performance is preferred over feel in my case!

another thing I'm considering especially with my upcoming TSR fitting... it was mentioned today on the TSR TT talk that you pick your ball based on how it performs with your wedges and scoring clubs and that a good fitter can then fine-tune the driver to that ball. My fitting is Nov 9th at TPI so in the time until then I'm going to do some testing to find my ball and then have the fitting for Driver and Fairway based on that. We have a really nice par 3 course and I'm going to play both balls on each hole and see how things shake out in the real world.

I was using the ProV1x until I some gave me a box of the new ProV1s last year. For me, I found it longer and it performed just as well around the green. Consequently, I have only been using the ProV1 this year.

For me there's not enough feel in the world to make up for the height, spin and distance I get from Pro V1x. I'd say pick the ball that suits your game the best, don't hit a single shot with anything else and within a couple of round that ball will feel absolutely fine to you. The whole "feel thing" mostly comes into play when you're switching between balls IMO.
