I currently game players distance irons because I’m a mid-handicap (6.2 index) at my club and was looking for forgiveness. I’m a high swing speed player, averaging 110 with driver. Here’s the issue, last week a played a round with my buddy’s clubs which are blades with project x 6.5 shafts. I couldn’t miss. My irons, and fairwoods are massively inconsistent and I have gapping issues at the bottom of my bag because of the players distance irons.

    Currently I game: TSI3 driver with tensei raw white 65 x 16.5 gt3 fairway with tensei 1K black 75s 19 gt2 hybrid with tensei 1k black 85s T200 4-p amt white S Vokey 46,52,58 DG wedge flex.

PW is stock 152 46 is stock 134 52 is stock 122 58 is stock 104 Yes, it’s fun to hit it long, but it’s more fun to play better and i feel as if the T200’s are too long, but I also know I need the help.

I seem to keep finding “hot spots” in the irons and I can’t control them like I would like.

Any similar handicaps with similar speeds deal with this and what was the fix?

The fix is to spend some time with a very good fitter that can not only help you match up the set you need, but can help you prioritize your needs, which sounds like accuracy and consistency over distance. Everyone is different so no matter what works for me or another TT member, you need to dial in what works for you. Best wishes and hope you get it dialed in.

I looked at your profile and it appears that your equipment is a few years old and you play a considerable amount of golf. Your wedges (sm5 and 7) will loose the sharpness between 70-100 rounds. The grooves are probably worn and need replacing. If you practice a lot some of your regular irons could experience the same issue, being they are a 2021 model. Might consider seeing a fitter. Just food for thought. I do not change every cycle, but when I see wear spots on my irons, I know it's time for a change. With respect.

The stock answer from most on here is go for a fitting. Of course that is good advice but you are also looking for opinions too. So here is mine. I played to a 2 handicap and then life took me in a different direction. After 8 yrs off I returned to the game. I was fitted for a blended set of T series PW-7 T100, 6 T150, and 3-5 T250. I realize I jumped the gun and should have given myself more time to get the old swing back. What I found was the T100's feel great but I had to figure out my new distances because they are longer than my previous miz blades. The T250's are very inconsistent with distances, for example I would normally hit a 4 iron 215 but found myself hitting the T250 215-230 with the same swing. I would get hot shots that flew way too far. My son plays the 620 MB's I tried them multiple times at the range and picked up a used set and said good bye to the T series. I also share your swing speed and find with the 620's with x100 DG shafts, they can handle my swing speed and I never have to worry about distance control. Also, with traditional lofts I know exactly how far these clubs will go for me. If you are a 6.2 you obviously can strike the ball fairly well. My advice when you go for a fitting look at the T100's and even hit a 620 MB or CB and see what the numbers look like. You have options of blending the MB/CBs or even the CB's and T100's. Speed is a valuable thing to have and with "distance" clubs sometimes it can compound a bad swing and make the result even worse. IMO. Best of luck!!
