I played a couple of rounds this weekend with the RED numbered 2027 prototype balls. For me, they feel a bit softer off the putter. The distance was very minimally longer (maybe 3-5 yards) off the driver and the spin seemed a bit higher than the current ProV1x. The cover also seems to be a bit more durable, 18 holes and no visual scuffs or discoloration.

To me, they seem like an incrementail improvement.

I like the ball and will play a few more rounds with them.

  2. Which model are you comparing them to the V1X?
Looking forward to a review on the V1X or the AVX which is my preferred option

AVX is not due out for an upgrade so the current prototypes are ProV1 (Black) and ProV1x (Red).

Do you suspect they are updating the ProV1 / ProV1X or adding variants like bringing the Pro V1x+ for retail?

These prototypes are the basis for the 2027 V and X updates. There won’t be a widespread distribution of any additional tour certified balls should Titleist elect to release them to the general public. Even on tour, the majority play the standard V or X.

I was sent the black prototypes for testing. Compared to the current ProVI, they didn’t feel as soft off the putter or irons and didn’t seem to spin quite as much on chip shots. They seemed the same in terms of distance and forgiveness. I preferred the current ProV1s. Maybe it was just my play for that round.

I am still working through my testing with the balls but here is what I have noticed from on course play and time on a GC Quad. For Reference I my index floats between a 2 and a 4 and my driver swing speed is 115-117

    1. Off the putter the black number proto felt more "solid" less "ting" compared to current version Pro V1. I wouldn't describe it as softer, just more solid. Feel was similar with irons and woods

    2. Starting around my 8 iron and going down I noticed I was getting 200-400 more RPMs of spin on full shots compared to current year version.

    3. With driver my solid shots seemed to have similar spin to current version pro v1 but mishits seemed to have more spin.

More testing to go but that is my observations thus far.

Would love to test the new Pro V1, been gaming it my whole life. Tried TP5 this year and also cally Chrome Tour but always back to the Pro V1. Just nothing like it off the putter face and the new Chain Link Milling on the 9R it really is soft

Received mine the other day, played one round so far with the black Proto 27. During round if had the opportunity would hit both the proto and my current gamer the V1x and note any differences but would love to hear from someone at Titleist on what suggestions they would have to effectively test and try out these balls, especially on the course and in various playing conditions.
  26. Received my red number Proto 27 today cannot wait until Saturday

Played a couple of rounds this weekend with the Pro V1x prototypes. Distance and spin were about the same for me as the current ball, given my relatively low swing speed. Performance on the greens was hard to judge since we just aeriated our greens and they are soft and bumpy. What did stand out over the 2 rounds was the narrow dispersion that occurred with my driver. In a normal round I will inevitably push or pull at least a couple of drives over 18 holes. Over the 36 I played this weekend, I only had one push, that still ended up in the fairway, and one pull. Every other drive was comfortably situated roughly in the middle of the fairway. I never thought a ball could matter that much in terms of hitting the ball straight but I clearly had a much tighter dispersion than at any other time I can recall. This may just be a coincidence, but I thought it should be noted.

Look forward to seeing if this holds up over the next few weeks. Fuller report to follow.

My Feedback on the Titleist 27 Promo Ball – Red #

I received the 27 Promo Balls with the Red # and wanted to give a little feedback to the Team Titleist group.

I’m a 56-year-old golfer, and I’ve now played 2 full rounds with the Promo Ball Red. Today I played at Coronado Golf Course and shot a 72 with it. ️

    Here’s my take:

    Distance:
I was probably 10–15 yards longer overall with my driver and irons compared to what I normally see. That was definitely noticeable.

    Approach shots & wedges:
One thing I really like about this ball is how well it holds the greens with the longer clubs. With wedges, I got some spin as well—not crazy spin, but enough to get the ball to check up and hold the green.

    Pitch & chip shots:
This was probably my biggest adjustment. I didn’t really like how the ball reacted around the greens on pitch and chip shots. It seemed to release and roll out a lot more than I expected, so I would definitely need some more time with it to adjust to how it comes off the club.

    Putting:
I love how this ball feels coming off the putter face. The feel is really good and probably one of my favorite things about the ball so far.

    Overall:
After two rounds, I think the 27 Promo Ball Red is a very good ball. The distance and putting feel are excellent, and I really like how it holds the greens with the longer clubs. The short-game release is something I would need to get used to.

Thanks Team Titleist for giving us the opportunity to test it out! I’m looking forward to playing a few more rounds with it and seeing how my opinion develops. ️‍♂️️
