Today, we use red play numbers on the V1x, and black on the V1. Back in the day, that was occasionally done with the Titleist script, with the script in red. Any idea what that signified, and the history behind it?

I just think the first DT’s used the red Titleist script for easy identification between them and the tour balata. The tour balata came in two versions, a 90 compression with a red number and 100 compression with a black number. After a few years they just relied on the DT print above the script and made DT in both compression models, thus the different color numbers.

That makes perfect sense, Dale, thank you.
I really like the aesthetic of the red script.
It would look sharp (and be practical, as well) on something like Left Dash.
  4. And the Finalist was green script for the handful of us who remember those balls.

YEP... the red script was for the surlyn covered DT (Durable Titleist) that my high school coach gave our team in 1979 for our matches... so that ball is only 47 years young!

I believe the different color scripts signified new models, but the DT was for Durable Titleist.
